I thought Yami Yami was great, the sushi was very good and reasonably priced (we got 5 rolls and an app for about 30 dollars and both left full!). The server was nice and helpful. No complaints, I'll eat here again!

Yami yami is gross. Don't come here. When you walk in it's smells like Chinese food. When I walked in all the employees were sitting at different tables eating and watching TV. I was confused why everyone stood up when I walked in and then realize they were all employees. The sushi chef ate and made my food then went back to eating. Same with waitress. The sushi chef was nice but no one else was. Sushi was small for the price. It's new inside but I am officially grossed out.

I'm not entirely sure why this place comes so highly recommended. I came here excited for some affordable sushi and hungry for dinner! I got a Rainbow Roll for $11 - I got it to go. The hostess/waitress was nice, but with no one else in the restaurant, it still took about 20-30 minutes to get my to go order of one Rainbow Roll. When I opened it, I was sorely disappointed: 1) The roll was TINY. 2) The sashimi on top of the roll was very thin and you could barely taste the flavor of the fish. 3) The "crabmeat" that is inside is imitation crab (that is a huge pet peeve of mine - if you're not using real crab meat, let people know ahead of time, it's misleading). 4) For the price, I could've gotten a more sizable Rainbow Roll and probably of better quality at Whole Foods for $12-$13. All in all, I won't be back. The only saving grace was that the staff was nice and it feels like a nice enough restaurant. Nothing fancy, but for the prices, I'd rather go elsewhere.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Yami Yami for sushi. Instead of visiting our neighborhood and routine izakaya, my girlfriend and I decided to dine at one of the newest joints in town. After our time there last night, it's likely that I won't return. Décor: I usually don't care about décor, but I found it unusual that two cityscapes (New York City and San Francisco) hung on opposite walls from each other. Is Yami Yami paying tribute to these cities? I just don't get it and think this restaurant could have gone further than just hanging several red lanterns in the window front. Menu: The owner of Yami Yami needs to make up his or her mind as to what this place should be.Despite serving traditional sushi entrees and rolls, I almost think it's a sin for any Japanese eatery to serve Chinese. I believe hot & sour soup, kung pao chicken, and Szechuan shrimp should never be mentioned in the same menu or website. Sure, exceptions do exist (such as Vietnamese-Chinese and Korean-Japanese due to regional influences), but Japanese-Chinese is not one of them. Food: We ordered the sashimi entrée as well as three "special rolls:" No. 9, B.M.W., and Caterpillar (Dragon): *Sashimi Entrée: The first thing you'll notice from this dish is that the sashimi is plated on both a plate and a ridiculous martini glass. My girlfriend said, "If Gordon Ramsay passed and somehow heard about this martini glass on a sashimi plate, he would be rolling in his grave." About the food, aside from the salmon, most of the cuts tasted old, dry, and flavorless. I kept eating the sashimi with hopes that the winter cold didn't mess up my taste buds. Nope. The cold didn't mess up anything. It's just not very good. *No. 9 (Shrimp tempura, cucumber inside, topped with fresh salmon and avocado): It might have been the best part our dinner last night, but it wasn't necessarily anything special. *Caterpillar Roll (Toasted eel, cucumber, and topped with avocado, tobiko, and eel sauce): Where is the eel? All I tasted was avocado. *B.M.W Roll (Spicy tuna, avocado, deep fried, topped with eel sauce, spicy mayo sauce, and tobiko): I guess this is my fault, because I've eaten quite a few BMW rolls that weren't fried and failed to read how Yami Yami fries them. Anyways, this fried roll absolutely killed any ingredients inside and looks outside. Last night, I was starving and found it difficult to eat the last three bites or so. *Price: At first glance, prices may look affordable; however, considering the quality of their ingredients and overall taste of their food, it's actually quite overpriced. *Service: I understand the server was busy, but I have to say it was on the slower side. Nice guy, though. *Verdict: Yes, I understand that one shouldn't expect mind-blowing sushi in Minnesota. But many local izakayas have made their food tasty enough to attract regulars. Given this context, I absolutely cannot recommend ever eating at Yami Yami. Hopefully, someone there can read this and realize that I'm trying to provide constructive criticism, so they can put out a decent product and succeed. Best of luck.

We agree with the previous reviews: very good Asian food and great value. The spicy sushi combo plate was a remarkable bargain. Three good size rolls and soup for $13. I had the hot and spicy soup which I thought was excellent. My wife had the miso soup which she liked very much too. The decor is very casual--perfect for family and friends but perhaps a bit too casual if you're trying to impress out-of-town guests. The employees were very friendly. I wish them great luck with their new restaurant. We ended up with a bit more food than we wanted to eat for under $30 for two people. We will definitely be back.

Came in for work from Chicago and every place downtown was closed between lunch and dinner, but I HAD to have my sushi, so I gave this place a try- glad I did! I was the only one there and the sushi chef (and part owner) made me a free sample dish of the redtail and tuna, which was delicious! I came here during happy hour, so light beer was only $2. The miso soup was hot and tasty, and the main dish, spicy tuna with avocado was presented so nicely, turned out to be a beautiful roll and was so good. The sushi chef was so friendly and made me feel comfortable and since I was alone he made great conversation with me. Highly recommend this place and they serve Chinese food too! Five stars!

Had yami yami several times for carry out, once for dine in. Fantastic sushi and very friendly staff. Haven't had a bad roll yet, my favorite has to be the black dragon roll. Great spot in SLP. Hope it sticks around for a while.

Very decent prices for sushi rolls! Nigiri and sashimi prices are kind of expensive though. They also offer chinese dishes as well. The fish was fresh and the rolls were made pretty decently. Our server was chinese and had a very quiet voice so there were a few awkward moments with our server but nothing that would detract me from going for sushi again! There were four of us and we came out with a little over $50 for the 4 of us which is a really good deal!

Nice sushi place for the neighborhood. Free parking nearby. Similar to places around town that serve Asian food from various regions.

Awesome Sushi and Chinese dishes. Very friendly staff. Try the Hot and Spicy chicken. Simply GREAT.

We ate here on a Wednesday night; by the time we left (7:00pm) it was about 1/2 full of patrons. The fish was fresh, the service was great the only thing holding me back from 5 stars was their rice. If your a sushi lover you know how important the rice is. Overall though, great prices, great service & fresh fish!

We went back for more. Shrimp tempura, Philadelphia roll and spicey California roll. Lunch special. All for $11.00. Amazing! Sit at the sushi bar and get to know the chef. He is great. They are getting wine and beer in a week. Excellent service again. U won't be disappointed

We went for lunch after seeing positive reviews. It was absolutely dreadful. Not only was the sashimi half cooked and half raw, but it seems that it was frozen and then thawed just before it was served. Nothing was fresh! And when you are serving raw fish that is a major problem. The only thing edible was the egg roll, which was deep fried. Very weird atmosphere, too. What a shame.

Great food! Have had several good experiences, however dining in seems to be a little better when it comes to quality. Overall, a great place! Would recommend to anyone looking for good Chinese and sushi!! only other suggestion would be for Yami Yami to have a better online menu and delivery menu on their website.

We ate here for the first time tonight and had a fantastic experience. The service was extremely friendly (genuinely friendly!). The sushi was as good as we've had anywhere else, including Wakame. The sushi chef was great and checked in with us a couple times to make sure we were happy. The gyoza was probably the best I've had and the rolls were fresh and delicious. The edamame was perfect. Can't wait to come back and try the lunch menu. I know this will become a mainstay for us and I'm very glad to have it in the neighborhood.

We have been here quite a few times. The sushi has always been fresh and expertly crafted. The prices are very reasonable. We have also gotten take-out for the kids Amazing deal $5 for enough Veggie Lo Mein for 3 kids same with the fried rice. The staff is very friendly. The Sushi Chef always checks in with us. I am so happy to have them in the neighborhood. They have a happy hour 3-6 I think $3 for a glass of wine that had a big enough pour to be 1 1/2 glasses. Unfortunately only light beers are on the happy hour menu.

Great new place for fresh and well done sushi. A welcome addition to the neighborhood. Good variety on the menu that includes some unique Chinese dishes. Nice beer selection, saki and very comfortable space. Could do without the large screen TV, but that's my only negative comment. We will be regulars!

So nice to have this new spot in St Louis Park. Huge variety of delicious sushi along with saki and beer available. Also Chinese food for those not wishing for sushi. Service was quick and with a smile. Can't wait to take advantage of the lunch specials.

I stopped in for lunch today, after noticing their grand opening sign hanging outside. They occupy the former Qdoba space in the Excelsior and Grand complex on Excelsior Blvd. I ordered from the eat-in menu. I enjoyed the wonton soup, the broth was good and tasted homemade. For $2.00 it was quite tasty. Wish they could of had a few more veggies in there..maybe a rib of bok choy would of made it more interesting. I ordered the spring roll appetizer- again $2. These were 2 small, bite-size really, commercial frozen grade spring rolls. They were tasty, but kinda small, not a shareable dish. My main entree was the hot and spicy chicken lunch special ($7.50). A tasty rendition of the dish, well spiced and the chicken had velvetted/marinated- nice touch. The dish was accompanied by a choice and white rice or "fried rice" . I opted for the white steamed rice. The interior was well appointed and quiet. Service was attentive. They also offer a extensive sushi menu. A great addition to the casual dining scene in that area. Parking is a breeze there, food was delivered hot and in a timely fashion. I think they will give Szichuan and First Wok some nice competition in the neighborhood. I'd return in a heartbeat.

I really enjoyed the sushi. I tried the soup and it was very bland. I also ordered the lo mien. It too was bland and also verrrrrry overcooked. I don't think I'll return here.

Had a great experience all three time we have gotten take out. Quick easy pick up with bitesquad order. Staff is super kind and friendly. The sushi is AWESOME and an amazing value. Best spicy yellowtail roll ever! The special rolls we ordered were good too. Interior looks clean and simple. Need to dine in soon. So happy to have this in the neighborhood- great alternative to Wakamae and just as tasty if not tastier!

This neighborhood sushi and more restaurant is the best! Everything has been good, but I especially like the green tea and pink lady rolls, because they're "pretty" and tasty. Great presentation, good value and excellent service, make this a place I visit often.

Great sushi at great prices! Service was quick, and the restaurant has a nice, laid back vibe. Looking forward to when they get their liquor license, which the owner said would be 11/1 - great addition to the neighborhood!
